The car sales were so slow management considered selling the car manufacturing portion of the company. In 1961, BMW launched a compact sedan with front disc brakes call the 1500. These innovations gave BMW a reputation for building quality sports cars. By the time 1963 arrived, BMW experienced so much success it was able to pay their stockholders dividends for the first time since the 1940s.
Today, the BMW headquarters is located in Munich, Germany. It is in a building known as the BMW Tower. It consists of four very impressive cylindrical shaped towers. The BMW tower is recognized as a Munich landmark. It has been home to BMW headquarters for more than 40 years. In 1999, the BMW Tower was designated as a protected historic building. The construction of the BMW Tower took place between 1968 and 1972 and was built in time for the 1972 Olympics. The exterior of the building was designated to provide the image of cylinders in an automobile. Each of the cylinders is divided in the center by a facade. Three of the cylinders don’t stand on the ground but are suspended from a center support tower.
BMW manufacturing takes place in over 29 sites in more than 13 countries around the world. Their operations are designed to provide essential logistics systems that benefit their many customers. BMW has a 45 percent annual growth rate in China starting in 2007. It is one of the most essential single-country markets in the world for BMW and continues to grow. The sales of BMW vehicles in Europe remains strong and is its fourth largest market. It has increased deliveries to European countries over six percent in recent years. The United States is currently the largest market for BMW cars.
Recently the ten-millionth BMW 3 Series vehicle left the manufacturing plant in Germany. This BMW vehicle has been a top seller for the company for more than four decades. There have been over 13 million vehicles manufactured of this model by BMW. The BMW manufacturing plant located in Munich, Germany is able to produce over 950 cars of this series in less than two days. It is so popular other BMW plants in Germany, South Africa, and China has started manufacturing the sedans for this series. The 3 Series BMW model began being produced in 1975. Since then, it has continuously been BMW’s top selling model.
BMW recently revealed its concept car called BMW Vision Next 100. It is made from a variety of materials including recycled carbon fiber. It has doors that are wing shaped and automatically open when a driver’s hand approaches. When a person is seated in the driver’s seat, the steering wheel comes out from the dashboard. The steering wheel resembles the yoke in an aircraft. It is equipped with a safety system known as Alive Geometry. It is a safety system designed to notify the driver of different types of road conditions such as oncoming traffic, road hazards and more. It has a windshield that displays any possible dangers and important data. This vehicle comes with a function that is driver-controlled called Boost. It provides tracking of steering points. When a person is finished driving it, the steering wheel, as well as the console, will retract.
